The approach we should take is not fear or over confidence, but to be watchful.  To our last breath we need to be watchful that we are still striving and following God’s commandments.  We should never lose hope – never fall down and not get back up. We should have our confidence in God’s promises of salvation for His children.  If you are a child of God, then you should have confidence in His mercy and His compassion, but be watchful that you are staying the course. We shouldn’t be troubled and overly obsessed with thoughts of Heaven or Hell, but always strive to be a child of God, following His commandments.  If you do this then you will have a peace about your eternity.  The Fathers of the church recommend that we read the Agbeya -conclusion of every hour and think of every word and ask for God’s mercy. Believing that God is the One that “does not wish the death of the sinner, but rather that he returns and lives, who calls all to salvation for the promise of good things to come.”
