Do you have any suggestions of books or websites to counter evolution? Do we believe in any form of evolution?

The scientific Theory of Evolution, which attempts to explain the origin of living organisms and the origin of species, is a very extensive theory with multiple components. We can mention that even within the scientific community, it remains a debated theory and not a law. However, the status of the theory is insignificant. God created the entire universe – the heavens, the earth, the sun, the moon, and the stars – and He created land and sea, and all the living creatures that inhabit the sea, fly above the earth, and tread upon dry land. Then He created man in His image and in His likeness (Genesis 1). Hence, the theory that life originated from a spontaneous series of events, and that species evolved from a common ancestor, is false.

However, the concept of adaptation is not contrary to our faith in God as the creator. Adaptation, the process by which a species becomes better suited to its environment through natural selection, is clearly evident and does not contradict our beliefs. But it is false to say that adaptation or natural selection can result in the emergence of new species. This aspect of the theory of evolution, referred to as“speciation”, does contradict our faith.

The Coptic Diocese of the Southern United States lists three books as references for this topic:

•    Evolution: The Fossils still say No! Duane T Gish: Creation-Life Publishers.
•    The Controversy. Donald E Chittick: Multnomah Press.
•    What About Origins. Dr. A J Montey White: Dunestone Printers Ltd.
•    True Science Agrees With the Bible. M Bowden: Sovereign publications
