Please help, is it GAGA or KAKA?
By: B.M.

cross_music.jpgMusic, Songs, Radio, Video Clips, Dancing, and rock and roll Laughing

All of the above were created to entertain us.  I love music and songs, and if GOD had granted me a good signing voice, I would have sang too…   Does music suppose to entertain us, inspire us, or to make us feel good?  I recently heard a crazy song performed by Lady Gaga…  I have to be honest I had no clue who she is; until one day I read that she has 10 million Facebook “followers”.   So Here are some of the lyrics from the song:-

I want your ugly
I want your disease
I want your everything
As long as it’s free …..
I want your psycho….
Move that b#$%* crazy

It is a good idea to read it again SLOOOWWLYY… do you think these lyrics desensitize us?  This is the same lady has 10 million followers/fans on Facebook alone. This is sad.  I wonder if someone walk up to her and say “I have a cold, do you want my cold or how about some STD?” What would be her reaction?

Now, when I hear a song with a catchy tune, I check out the lyrics.   Then I look for words that advocate sex/pornography, drinking, drugs or getting high, violence or profanity.  Bottom line if the lyrics are in contradiction to the bible and my belief, then I am better off avoiding its influence. I think that is a good way to identify if this song will help me spiritual or hurt my relationship with the Lord.

The music has changed from romantic or joyful to the crazy stuff we hear now. We went from “you are so beautiful me” and “don’t worry be happy” to “Bad Romance by lady Gaga” There are a lot worse lyrics in the music we hear.

Music affects us and our mood; listen to the blues and check on your smile periodically.  I am sure it will fade… Some music used in torture such as heavy metal (Metallica), and rap.

There was a song that said we don’t need no education and a kid I knew quite school because he was influenced by it. He wasted few years from his life.

If you enjoy music like me, I advise you to be selective and wise about what you listen to.  There are great spiritual songs (hymns) from great Christian artists that chose to Praise GOD.  It is very important to guard yourself because this music is all around us, in the supermarkets, DMVs, elevators, cars….

I pray asking the Holy Spirit to guides us and help us recognize these devilish tricks.
